BMAT Overview

The BMAT is a 2hour standardized test which consists of the following sections:

Aptitude and Skills

The Aptitude and Skills section evaluates generic skills in problem solving, understanding argument and data analysis and inference. You will be required to be able to select relevant information, recognize analogous cases, determine and apply appropriate procedures, identify reasons, assumptions, conclusions and detect flaws in an argument, draw conclusions and use of information skills, data interpretation, analysis and scientific interference and deduction to reach appropriate conclusions from information provided. There are 35 multiple choice or short answer questions in the section.

Scientific Knowledge and Application

The Scientific Knowledge and Applications section evaluates the depth of your core knowledge and your ability to apply it. There are 27 multiple choice or short answer questions in the section.

Writing Task

The Writing Task section evaluates your ability to select, develop and organize ideas and communicate them in writing in a concise and effective way. Candidates are required to explain or discuss the proposition’s implications, suggest a counter proposition or argument and a resolution to the proposition. Topics are based on topics of general, medical, veterinary or scientific interest. Candidates have to complete 1 essay question from a choice of 4 questions.
